Global health security

  • USAID Global Health Security: USAID’s Global Health Security Program seeks to prevent and mitigate the increasing occurrence and severity of emerging infectious disease threats. Their website is a resource for USAID-funded global health security projects.

Risk communication, social behavioral change and community engagement

  • Breakthrough Action for Social & Behavior Change: Breakthrough ACTION works in partnership with governments, civil society and communities around the world to implement creative and sustainable social and behavior change (SBC) programming, nurture SBC champions, mainstream new techniques and technologies and advocate strategic and sustained investment in SBC.
  • Breakthrough Research for Social & Behavior Change: catalyzes social and behavior change (SBC) by conducting state-of-the-art research and evaluation and promoting evidence-based solutions to improve health and development programs around the world. In partnership with a range of stakeholders, Breakthrough RESEARCH is identifying key evidence gaps and developing consensus-driven research agendas to guide priority investments in SBC research, programs and policy.

Human resources

  • Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN): in a bid to develop a workforce without disciplinary barriers, AFROHUN is working to transform the training environment and approaches in universities. They enable students to understand and appreciate the contribution of disciplines outside their own in predicting, detecting and responding to the kind of complex health challenges we are witnessing today.
  • OpenWHO.org: provides free online courses with life-saving health knowledge on current epidemics from the World Health Organization.
  • Inservice applied epidemiology training: provides an in-service training programme that targets frontline veterinary staff, mentors and trainers.

Outbreak preparedness and response

  • Community Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Programme (CP3): through the CP3, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is supporting communities, National Societies and other partners to prevent, detect and respond to disease threats. In doing so, they can play a significant role in preparing for future health risks. Case studies are shared showing how the programme is adapted to each country’s health priorities, needs, risks and capacities.
